Email privacy
We use your email address to send the daily newsletter after you confirm it. We also save the signup page, consent date, confirmation date and subscription status.
You can also choose email updates for individual topics. Each topic email choice is separate from the daily newsletter and web push. We save the topics you select and their subscription dates. A private management link opens your email choices; the management session lasts two hours. Unused verification links expire after one hour. We remove expired links when topic delivery is running.
For web push, we store your browser’s push subscription encrypted, its consent date, and your selected topics. A private, HttpOnly cookie lets this browser manage its push choices for up to one year. It is used for subscription controls, not analytics. Delivery goes through your browser’s push service, such as Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft. Push messages contain the topic title and a short update, which can appear on your lock screen.
You can stop a channel for one topic, or turn off all push for this browser, in My subscriptions. Turning off all push deletes that browser’s stored subscription. If the push service rejects an invalid browser address, we disable that subscription. When topic delivery is running, we remove disabled browser records and completed delivery records after 30 days. We keep delivery records that need manual review because we could not confirm whether the update was sent. Browser site settings can also block notifications.
Mailgun processes your address to deliver these messages. We do not sell the mailing list. Newsletter article links include an edition code. We count total link visits without adding your email address or a personal identifier to those links. This count can include mail scanners. We do not add tracking pixels to our emails. Sponsor links in the email are ordinary links. We do not count visits to them.
Every edition includes an unsubscribe link for the daily newsletter. Each topic email has its own unsubscribe link. We keep a record of unsubscribed and blocked addresses so that we can respect those choices. Unconfirmed signups without a verified email address are removed after 30 days. The email provider may keep its own delivery and abuse records.
You can ask to access or delete your newsletter data by contacting the publisher at [email protected].
With analytics consent, we can also count confirmed signups from an article. Site privacy and analytics.
